About Baxter Design
Tim Baxter is a qualified Building Designer with over 10 years of experience in the building industry. Tim founded Baxter Design in 2014, and for the past 8 years has been preparing tailored design solutions and documentation for residential projects across the Canberra region and further afield. Tim appreciates the financial and emotional investment involved in your design project. He will listen to, and collaborate with you to ensure that the finished product delights you, stylistically and functionally. Tim knows that the processes involved can be daunting and will be happy to provide guidance and support every step along the way to your new (or newly renovated) home.
Industry Membership
Baxter Design is a proud & Accredited member of the Building Designers Association of Australia (BDAA). The BDAA is the national association that represents, advocates for, promotes and connects building designers throughout Australia. In addition, the BDAA is the governing body responsible for the management and oversight of the accreditation of building designers. Accreditation ensures that building designers meet professional standards required by the industry and can only be maintained by engaging in continuing professional development, holding a level of professional indemnity insurance consummate with industry participation, and participating in regular audits of completed works.
Membership and regular, active participation in the associated forums ensures that Baxter Design:
•is engaged in continuous education opportunities, to ensure thorough understanding and application of relevant regulations and building standards
•has visibility and understanding of existing and new-to-market products/materials, to suit your design aesthetic and functional expectations; and

EXTENSION/ RENOVATION – MONASH
We worked with Baxter Design on the extensive remodelling and extension of our small and dark 80’s home. Our brief was to create open plan living, add an ensuite, an extra bedroom, study space, and rumpus room for our young family, as well as take advantage of the northerly aspect, and create connection to the outdoors.
Tim worked in close collaboration with us through the design phase to understand exactly what we were trying to achieve. Tim diligently came up with unique solutions that contributed to the functionality of the floorplan, and the efficiency of the building. As an owner-builder, we made changes throughout the build, and Tim always made himself readily available throughout the build to consult with, draft changes and prepare documentation for council submission.
Considering the constraints of the existing home, the result of Tim’s design is a renovated and extended house that functions like a brand-new build. The floorplan very effectively achieves ease of living for our family - the kitchen, living and dining area flows seamlessly to multiple outdoor areas, and the internal access from the garage directly into the laundry/mud room works well for our busy family. The rooms are all very generous in size, but there is very little wasted space throughout the home.
Best of all, the home just feels good. It is open, light filled, energy efficient, and comfortable. The well-considered connection to our existing garden and beyond, makes our home all the more enjoyable.
Tim was always a pleasure to work with. His ability as a designer, and his easy-going, friendly approach, took away a lot of stress. We are so proud of our new home, and always very confident in recommending Baxter Design to our family, friends, and clients.
